Cherry Mobile - Top 1 Local Mobile Brand, MyPhone on Second

MyPhone is the second most-owned local mobile phone brand and 5th overall in the Philippines. To further increase market share or catch more Filipino consumers, MyPhone released the latest "RIO" - the cheapest quad core Android smartphone boosting 5.0" High Definition (HD, 1280x720) display for P4,999 or $110 only but recently challenged by rival Cherry Mobile OMEGA Spectrum (P4,999).

According to JANA Blog, from survey of smartphone preference among Filipino consumers, Cherry Mobile (17%) was the third most-owned brand overall next to Nokia (28%) and Samsung (24%), Myphone (4%) landed at 5th next to Sony (9%).

From local mobile brand point of view, Cherry Mobile is the most-owned and MyPhone comes second most popular choice to Pinoy consumers. In addition, 85% of respondents would be happy to buy a Filipino phone brand.

That is a good news for our local mobile brand player, Cherry Mobile, MyPhone, StarMobile, SKK Mobile, Torque, DTC Mobile, O+ and Cloudfone.

Affordable smartphones from Cherry Mobile like latest single core powered Android phone "ONYX" will definitely fuel to drive the shift of Pinoy consumers from feature phones to smartphones in the coming years.

Add to that, in 2-3 years time, smartphones is seen to dominate the Philippine mobile market due to the rise of affordable/low-cost smartphones (Cheapest quad core Android smartphone - Cherry Mobile LIFE 2.0 (P3,299), dual core - Cherry Mobile GARNET (P1,899), single core - Cherry Mobile ONYX (P1,499).

Although, Philippine market is still dominated by features phones (only 15% smartphone penetration), it will not be for long, the change is already happening.

With youngest and fastest growing economy in Asia, with higher rates of social media usage in the world, dubbed as one of selfie capital of the world, with smartphone shipments increased of 75% year-on-year, with low cost smartphones for as low as P1,499 or $33 (Cherry Mobile ONYX), only time will tell from now that majority of Pinoy consumers will shift from feature phones to smartphones.

Do our local mobile brand player, local App developers and startup brands ready for the change and opportunities?
